Honda’s October 8 announcement adds a Sport-L grade to the U.S. 2027 Civic Sedan and Hatchback, placing more comfort equipment in a non-hybrid configuration. It joins the range by the end of 2026, while other 2027 Civics are already starting to arrive.

Sport-L uses a 2.0-liter engine and CVT. It adds leather upholstery, heated and power-adjustable front seats, and dual-zone climate control—features previously reserved for hybrid grades in different combinations.

Sedan and hatchback prices differ

Honda lists a $1,295 destination and handling charge. The figures below include it, but exclude taxes, registration, premium paint and dealer-installed accessories.

2027 configurationMSRPWith destination
Sedan LX$24,995$26,290
Sedan Sport-L$28,495$29,790
Sedan Sport Hybrid$29,695$30,990
Hatchback Sport-L$29,695$30,990

The sedan Sport-L is $1,200 below the sedan Sport Hybrid on this suggested-price basis. The hatchback Sport-L costs $1,200 more than its sedan counterpart. Those are different comparisons: the first changes grade and powertrain, while the second changes body style.

A shopper comparing two $30,990 listings should therefore check more than the price. One could be a Sport-L hatchback and the other a Sport Hybrid sedan before any extra charges or discounts. The body style and powertrain need to be explicit on the quote.

Where the new trim fits

Sport-L gives buyers a way to prioritize seating and climate equipment without selecting a hybrid. That makes it particularly relevant to someone whose required features previously pushed the shopping list toward an electrified grade.

The $1,200 sedan gap also gives buyers a concrete starting point for evaluating the hybrid alternative. Calculate any expected fuel savings using the exact configurations and your own annual mileage, then consider the equipment differences separately. The sticker gap alone does not establish which will cost less over your ownership period.

S+ Shift belongs to Sport Touring Hybrid

Honda also adds its simulated-shift S+ Shift drive mode to Sport Touring Hybrid. This is a separate change at the top of the hybrid range, not equipment included simply because a Civic carries Sport-L badging.

When requesting a vehicle, specify body style, grade and powertrain together. Ask for its window sticker and an itemized delivered quote before comparing it with another dealer’s car. Honda’s U.S. announcement provides the grade-by-grade prices and equipment behind these comparisons.
